Corporate Gifting: How to Choose Thoughtful Gifts for Clients and Teams

Client and team gifts fail for predictable reasons. Here is how to keep them personal at scale.

Corporate gifts tend to fail in one of two directions: too impersonal to register, or too personal to be appropriate. The space between them is narrower than it looks, but it is not hard to find.

The useful question is not 'what should we send?' It is 'what should the person feel when they open it at their desk?'

Separate client gifts from team gifts

These are different jobs. A client gift acknowledges a relationship that is professional by definition, so it should be generous, tasteful and easy to accept.

A team gift acknowledges effort you actually witnessed. It can be warmer and more specific, because you know what the year looked like.

Choose one standard and vary the note

Trying to individualise every item does not scale and usually produces an uneven result. Instead, pick one well-made gift as the standard and let the message carry the personalisation.

A card that names the specific project, launch or quarter turns an identical box into something that clearly belongs to that person.

  • One consistent gift so nobody compares upward or downward.
  • A written message per recipient, referencing something real.
  • Restrained branding, if any — a gift is not a placement.

Keep it appropriate and easy to receive

Many organisations have gift policies and value limits. Anything the recipient has to declare, justify or decline is a burden dressed as a gesture.

Stay away from anything that comments on the person's body, home or personal life. Consumables, desk-friendly items and shareable food are safe without being lazy.

Time it away from the crowd

A gift arriving in the busiest gifting week competes with a dozen others. The same gift a few weeks earlier, or at the close of a project, gets read as attention rather than routine.

Anniversaries of a partnership, a completed launch or a simple thank-you moment all work better than the obvious date.

Plan the logistics before the shortlist

Decide how many recipients, where they are and when it needs to land, then choose. Working the other way round is how good ideas become impossible ones.

For multiple recipients, get in touch with our team through the contact page with the numbers, the occasion and your budget, and we will confirm what is workable.
